Percussion Lessons

Percussion lessons are meant to be a supplement to a school program, whether it is preparing for high school marching band or at the professional level. You will learn how to read percussion music notation, play a variety of tonal and atonal percussion instruments, and the history behind those instruments. In percussion lessons we will focus on snare rudiments and technique as well as learning to read music on xylophone.

Percussion Teachers

Matt Bennett is a drummer and percussionist from Augusta, Ga who enjoys rocking out on the drums as much as playing a deep African groove. Matt is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a minor in International Studies, studying Jazz drum set, African music, and Latin percussion.

Currently, Matt is working as a freelance musician in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where he plays in cover bands, original groups, churches, musicals, an African troupe, and accompanies dancers at Texas Woman's University. He has toured the country with various groups and has taken two research trips to West Africa where he studied traditional music and dance in villages in Ghana.

Matt has over ten years of teaching experience including private lessons, group lessons, clinics, band camps, and developing curriculum for programs like Stomp! For Life, an integrative after-school program that uses rhythm to teach healthy habits to kids.

Matt spent some of his college career studying classical music as well as drum set and percussion so will have no problem coaching you through that upcoming audition.
